When you go for buying rugs for your household, you will get a wide assortment to choose from. They are different in styles, different in shapes, different in designs, different in colors and different in materials. It is definitely going to be confusing to decide on, for a person who never has bought any area rugs. These various types of area rugs have been categorized in various sections. Among them the traditional style and the transitional style are quite popular choice to the buyers.

  1. As a definition, the traditional rugs are the rugs, which have authentic Victorian and Oriental styles, whereas the transitional rugs are something different, as they cannot be categorized as traditional or contemporary. According to the rug specialist, these rugs fall in between the traditional and contemporary. They have a blend of contemporary designs with elegant styles. While the traditional rugs offer an elegant and luxurious look to your home, the transitional variety will make your home to feel more warm and welcoming.
  2. Another important characteristic of the transitional rugs is the color. Usually the traditional rugs are prepared in a pre-defined range of colors. Most of the traditional rugs have almost same set of colors including maroon, black, red, navy blue, brown, white and green. You will not find any experiment with colors, in the traditional variety. However, there is no such rule for transitional rugs. It can be of any color as per the requirement of the design; dark or light, bright or dull. The rug-makers use their freedom to choose any color of their choice to give the carpet an exquisite look.
  3. As far the design aspect goes, you will find a major difference in that area, too. The traditional rugs generally have traditional motifs, mainly flowers or scenes from the country side. Here also, there is not much scope of experimenting with new patterns. To some extent, it can look monotonous to have same type of floral designs for every floor of your house. But, there is no limit of designs for transitional area rugs. These rugs can have any type of designs from a range of subjects including flowers, trees, natural scenes and more.
